The seller in CA (Hector Raul? - car flipper) told me it had 52k original miles, and lots of other, now obvious, falsehoods. 252k miles was more like it. It's a CA titled car for the previous 15 years, and I'm not sure of the history before that yet. It had all the smog & AC stuff, so I assumed CA it's whole life, but not sure. First two years: I got the engine running w/ a 32/36 weber and drove it for 2 summers, just around town. I was cleaning-up and replacing cosmetic issues... Fall of 2007: I found a 1977 320i block & head with 30k miles on a rebuild. (messy but OK) Upon receipt, tore everything off it and built it up from there. Then came time to tear the old motor out & clean-up the engine bay.I scored a metric mechanic 4 spd tranny on ebay for $50, maybe 300-600 miles on it. (Pulled off a totaled car in '87/'88) ...and a nice set of weber DCOE 40's that were rebuilt. All new rubber hoses, guibos, NOS radiator, stainless shorty header, ANSA down-pipes into an ANSA ctr resonator into an ANSA exhaust. (not the loud one). Interior almost all redone. Nice audio, fogs w/ dash knob... Rebuilt struts, new rear shocks, rear brakes... have all new parts to completely re-do the front brakes...when I have time. (2 years and not done! hoping to tackle this this winter - 09/10) Also have refinished strut housings, stainless brake lines, fresh backing plates... I recently cut the springs down & removed the spacers to drop the car down to where it belongs. Steers & handles amazingly now. Drives solid & tight. Best driving is on winding roads bewteen 55-75. If you are in the North East, please make sure to visit: www.bmw2002.us and register yourself. We had our first drive fall '09 and many more for 2010. Low key, good time gatherings. November 2011 Things I have done and/or discovered in the last 2-3 years... The head on the motor I bought was rebuilt with poor quality parts, and had one plug hole that was troublesome. So I found someone selling a freshly rebuilt model 121 head w/ an original mfr date of 1988. This model head is from the Tii and older roundies, slightly hight compression. Spring of 2011, (after the car sat for the winter) I spent several months troubleshooting a mis-fire. Turned-out the weber side drafts had suffered from fuel sitting in them over the 2 winters I stored the car. I bought a new set of webers, installed them w/ the 'new' head, and all was perfect. Finally got around to installing the front calipers/rotors/stainless lines. Turned out the rebuilt calipers I was sitting on for 4 years (?) were for the Tii, and just a hair too big! So I had to buy another rebuilt set, last minute job before heading out on a summer trip. During our 2011 final group drive & BBQ my "NOS" radiator split open on an upper/horizontal seam, blowing green radiator fluid everywhere. Turned-out it was not NOS, yet a recore. Thanks to Peter R, we were able to swap-out the blown radiator w/ his old, and off I go... I've replaced, repair and/or refurbished so much on the car at this point, it's beyond 1 page here. Body work is on the horizon. I have two NOS fenders and a new door that will get painted (a 2nd time - argg) and also the car itself will get sanded-down and painted properly. ![]() | Rate Me About Me No information to display.
